Choices in Offense
Offense Systems
There are at least 9 decisions to be made when forming your offense system:
1. Who will be your
attackers, setters, blockers, and defensive specialist, middle hitters, serving specialist, right side attackers vs. left side attackers?
2.What Setting options do you use?
Four Two:
4 hitters 2 setters (setters are positioned opposite from each other in the rotation and set when in the front row.
Five One:
5 hitters 1 setter
Six Two:
6 hitters 2 setters (setters are positioned opposite from each other in the rotation and set when they are in the back-row.
Six Three:
The triangle system. 6 hitters 3 setters This gives each setter/attacker setting responsibility two times and attacking responsibility once.
3. How Complex and diverse do you make the Offense?
Do you have players switch, does the setter call combination plays?Does the set the play before the whistle?
4. What Language will the offense use?
Do you use the number system: first number is the zone; the second number is the height and speed. A 51 is a short quick set in the middle. Or do you use the shorthand system; A 5 is a high set to the outside.
5. Who calls the play? The setter or the attacker?
6. Where is the passers target?
7. What offense do you use doing a free ball?
8. What offense do you use in a counter attack (transition offense)?
9. What will be your side-out offense?
